Charles J. “Chuck” Smith 85 Oblong, died Friday October 27, 2000 at the United

Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born October 26, 1915 in Martin

Township Crawford County, Illinois, Charles was the son of J. A. “Al” & Irene Belle

(Montgomery) Smith. On November 7, 1939 he married Beulah F. Parrott. She died

December 25, 1998. He worked in the Dairy Department of L. S. Heath & Sons for 25

years and retired from the State of Illinois Department of Transportation in 1978.

Chuck was a member of the Central United Methodist Church Oblong. Chuck &

Beulah were former members of Zion Church and lived in the Zion Community until

1984 when they moved to Oblong. Chuck was a member of the following; Oblong

Gem City Club, Robinson Elks Lodge #1188 and was very active in politics being

Republican Precinct Committeeman for 40 years. Chuck & Beulah loved to visit family

and friends.

Chuck is survived by, a Daughter & Son-in-law Diana Sue & Arden Shaffner; 2

Grandsons Terry Shaffner & Eric & Gina Shaffner; 1 Great Granddaughter Makayla

Danielle Shaffner; 3 Brothers and Sisters-In-Law Carl T. & Virginia Smith, Frank O. &

Shirley Smith and John & Maxine Smith; 1 Sister & Brother In-Law Juanita & Lee

McCann. Also surviving are several Nieces And Nephews. His Parents, Wife and 1

Brother Emerson Smith precede Chuck in death. Burial is in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery

rural Annapolis, IL.
